<image:caption>An abstract piece expressing how the blind community has given me a new vision and sense of self by encouraging me to see things differently. <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - "welcome to the masquerade"</image:title>
<image:caption>This piece was created in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The work comments that while physical masks have just started to bring public attention. we have always worn metaphorical masks that stifle our individuality, freedom. and livelihoods. We simultaneously put on our own "facades" to fit into prescribed molds and place "masks" on others via stereotyping. Additionally. masking our emotions and vulnerability strips us of true human connection. The piece argues that while physical masks are essential. perhaps it is time to shed metaphorical ones to create a more authentic society.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Erasure</image:title>
<image:caption>This piece was conceptualized after the death of George Floyd. The work is a visual interpretation of willful ignorance and perpetually invalidating the experiences of minorities. These experiences should be portrayed accurately: not only focusing on injustice. but also on the resilience and power of black individuals who fought back. The piece's message applies to other facets of identity besides race as well. encouraging people to fight for themselves and refuse to be erased by someone else's expectation.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This poster comments on the cultural duality of individuals from Indian American immigrant families. Made with acrylic paint, pen. and paper collage, the work integrates balance and contrast to represent grappling forces of tradition and assimilation. "Dichotomy" simultaneously critiques conformity and highlights the beauty of multiculturalism, urging the viewer to embrace all facets of their identity and honor racial diversity in others.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Fragments (do they see us?)</image:title>
<image:caption>Inspired by the advocacy movements of a local artist. this piece attempts to convey a social message on the lack of perspective and awareness that people often have towards socio-political situations. Often, minority groups are typecast. being seen only in "fragments" rather than whole people. In reality, the struggles of many go unseen, their cries unheard due to the limitations of our own ignorance. The visual fragmentation of pain in the image encourages all people. including myself. to reconsider our perceptions of others and learn the whole story about something. It raises the question, "do I see them?"</image:caption>

      <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - A beautiful kind of solitude</image:title>
<image:caption>We live in an interconnected world, one where we can interact with others on social media 24/7 and maintain meaningful relationships across the globe. Yet, with these benefits emerges a culture that creates pressures to always fit in. We have begun to fear not fitting in and equate time alone with being lonely. This artwork is about embracing being alone and taking time to build a loving relationship with yourself. I hope that through this work, people may feel less alone and learn to embrace the beauty of being themselves. The piece was auctioned at the Mirror Image Arts Fundraising Gala. All proceeds went to challenging the school-to-prison pipeline and helping incarcerated children.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Opening the floodgates of a restless mind</image:title>
<image:caption>This work is similar to erasure in that it was a therapeutic experience for myself. <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - More than a test score</image:title>
<image:caption>Part of a series. this piece addresses the unhealthy pursuit of perfection driven by the modern day educational system. Working with visually impaired and incarcerated youth showed me that the standard paradigm's emphasis on grades. test scores. and rote memorization creates an environment that defines success in a unidimensional way. It isolates people with learning differences and adverse childhood experiences. The piece advocates for curricular reform with socio-emotional learning, critical thinking skills. and project-based teaching to encourage all students to succeed academically.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - When they crowned me valedictorian</image:title>
<image:caption>Accompanying “my derailment”, this is a commentary piece about societal conformity, paranoia, and the consequences of a relentless pursuit of perfection. In these themes, the mixed media art challenges the idealization of people, and reveals the unexpected darker elements under someone’s facade. While the first piece was more introspective and critiqued the way we view ourselves, “When they crowned me valedictorian”, urges us to reconsider the way we view others. It emphasizes that everyone has more to them then what we initially see, and we should be wary of idealizing someone without knowing them in their entirety. Sometimes, the most smiling faces carry the heaviest sadness within their hearts.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - The iron gates of American liberty</image:title>
<image:caption>After entering high school, I realized that I had a unique voice that was best communicated through my creativity. “The iron gates of American liberty” was created for my freshman year final thesis, where I presented about how the arts are an essential part of being human. This piece was featured as an example of how artistic efforts can serve as a universal language to spread message about current events and be a small contributor to globalization. I made this during U.S. history, where I was simultaneously learning about the glory of American nationalism and burdened by the xenophobia that ostracizes immigrants in this country. An invitation to reexamine the hypocrisy of our country’s political climates, it inquires, “Is America really the land of the free and the home of the brave?”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Catharsis</image:title>
<image:caption>While art is a my way of understanding the world around me, it is also my way of understanding myself. Catharsis was a way for me to understanding my emotions, to unite the logical and emotional part of myself and cope with what I was experiencing. The piece details the healing process, and stages of recovering from setbacks or pain. Detailing the relief of creating an emotional outlet, this piece served as a form of catharsis for me in and of itself. It shows the importance of being comfortable with your own vulnerability, and finding what gives you peace on stormy days.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Study of Afghan Girl</image:title>
<image:caption>I started as a self-taught artist, and I truly believe the best way of learning is examining the success of those who came before. I was intrigued by the way successful artists used imagery and vivid facial expression in portraits to tell a distinct story. Steve McCurry’s Afghan Girl does exactly this with his captivating use of photography, and I made this piece to build my techniques and learn his artistic principles in my own artwork.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - An ode to tranquility</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the first “polished” pieces I made in my artistic career, “an ode to tranquility” was a study on the way art can convey emotions, or moods to the viewer. By overemphasizing femininity and the beauty of nature, I hoped to embody the incredible feeling of appreciating the simple things. Often, I feel that we take visual marvels serenity for granted, and this piece grants a small amount of peace to the viewer for them to appreciate a feeling of relaxation more.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Let the mind be</image:title>
<image:caption>This is an experimental piece, representing the subliminal experience of entering one's imagination, considering new ideas, and letting the mind run free. I find simplicity in mindfulness, where expectation falls by the wayside as we find a space to ponder, explore, and create. The whimsical spirit of the piece is represented not only by the imagery. but by the art-making process, where I played with eyeliner to illustrate contrast and new patterns.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - The thing about serenity</image:title>
<image:caption>This image comments on the complexity of a “serene” image in pop culture. Modern society often associates peace of mind or health with a calm demeanor and happiness 24/7, which is an unrealistic and problematic message. Thus, this sketch illustrates a person breaking out of the shell of serenity, to illustrate that it is okay to express vulnerability and that even the most put together people do not maintain their image all the time.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This piece was done to celebrate my school’s annual Diversity Day. It represents the power of allyship and respecting the unique beauty of each identity. The phrase, “be the light or the mirror that reflects it”, indicates that if you are a minority in any aspect of identity, you should be empowered to share those parts of your life and “shine your light”. On the other hand, if you are privileged in any regard, you should work to “reflect light” by empowering others around you and educating yourself.</image:caption>

The pages are rendered on Procreate, and I am currently prototyping ways to 3D print parts to make the images tactically accessible for people without v1s1on. She wanted her pages to maintain a casual. rough sketch appearance while using ambiguous shapes and textures so the reader could discern their own meaning upon viewing it. The piece. the beginning of her story in the graphic novel. relays the confidence and independence of using a cane for the first time. advocating for more blind people to travel and explore their world. <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Theirstory</image:title>
<image:caption>Over the summer, I worked on a project that conserved important documents. artifacts about blind history and shared these stories to change the public narrative around disability. This was one of the art pieces made in honor of this project. It depicts how the blind history project rewrites his-story to their-story: an anthology of individual experiences that help us critically reflect on disability in our past to inform our present.</image:caption>

<image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - 2020 White Cane Safety Day Design Winner</image:title>
<image:caption>These are two logos I created to celebrate White Cane Day 2020, a day to celebrate blind independence, lobby for disability justice reform, and provide a platform for individuals to share their perspectives. The logo was made to represent Colorado pride, since Colorado is one of the few states that have 3 schools for the blind and participates actively in putting together White Cane Day Celebrations. The logo won the design contest and was used on all merchandise and advertising.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Personal Artwork Gallery - Overlook Overlooked</image:title>
<image:caption>A painting of a snowy, mountainous overlook with a sunset. Nature is breathtakingly beautiful, yet with phenomenons like sunsets, we often ignore their beauty. Just as this overlook’s beauty should not be “overlooked,” neither should the other simple things in our lives, no matter how small they may seem.</image:caption>
